The purpose of our Social Ministry Committee is to extend Christian compassion and helpfulness to the ill, the aged, the orphaned, the underprivileged, the imprisoned and, in general, to persons of all ages in need of aid in body and soul. It strives to enlist in these efforts as many members and organizations in our church as possible.

Our Social Ministry committee is responsible for our monthly His Lighthouse Café Dinners which are held the 4th Thursday of each month serving from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in our Fellowship Hall. This is a free dinner open to every one, and though a free will offering is accepted it is entirely at the discretion of the attendees. Gifts, donations, and the free will offering help cover the costs for this ministry.

This committee also oversees our Funeral Luncheons which are offered to members who have loved one’s funerals through our church. We have a menu that the family can choose from and it is served as a buffet in our Fellowship Hall. There is no charge for this ministry, but a free will offering is also accepted that is deposited into the fund which makes these dinners possible.

The committee also prepares Christmas and Easter gifts that are distributed to our shut-ins and sent to our military men and women on active duty.

This committee oversee the Annual Thomas Snyder Memorial Fishing Tournament, pictures of which can be found in the photo gallery. Any proceeds earned from this are divided among the many benevolent causes we support such as Lutheran Disaster Relief, Haven Ministry, Camp Mt Luther, Madd, Friends of Gettysburg Seminary, Friends of Buffalo Valley Nursing Home, ELCA Missionary Fund, Rocky Mountain Navaho Mission in Montana, Sun Home Hospice, Birthright of Sunbury, among others.

And the committee contributes to the Mitten Tree Project each Christmas which is operated by our WELCA group, another project that helps needy families in our area at Christmas.
